VETRINI N.3
Date
2021
Vetrini n.3 is part of the series of the same name, and is an investigation into the essence of matter and the breakdown of what is material. As when we observe a sample on a microscope slide, the artist intends to guide us in the enjoyment of this work. Starting with a process characterized by stratifications, slow and gradual gestures, the artist spreads the liquid color on a nylon support. Once the color is stabilized, drying dehydrates and stabilizes the material. The repetition of layers of color becomes like a film which is subsequently placed on the PVC to complete the work. The layers of PVC act as a glass slide, on which the material composition of the paint is placed. Contrary to what would happen in a scientific process, where every single slide is analyzed as a painting as an end in itself, the artist superimposes the various layers of PVC on top of each other. By orchestrating an abstract painting, composed of contrasting patterns of colors and transparencies which in some points are denser and in others more delineated, the artist asks us to look at the material as it presents itself to our eyes. If initially our perception is clouded, through contemplation we are later able to analyze the forms present, until we identify the features of a decomposed landscape. In this work, we are therefore asked to place our attention not on the landscape as a whole, but to notice the details of what is within what is visible. Thus triggering an exercise applicable to our relationship with nature and the perception we have of it, Vetrini n.3 asks us to simultaneously contemplate the decomposition of matter.
